What it means to me to be a
KESHO sponsored student

I am very gratefully for the sponsorship I have had since Form one

My parents could not afford to pay me school fees because none of my parents was working so they could not fulfil all our basic needs as we are a family of 13 children

My dad stopped working when I was in class five because of a leg problem that made him suffer for 2 years and we had to stop learning as he could not pay school fees for us. My mother struggled and managed to take my elder brother back to school but for us girls we had to remain home. This made me unhappy and I decided to start some small business like selling oranges bananas and charcoals in our small towns around our location so that I could pay my fees but I never succeeded and I ended up being a house maid in Kilifi

The problem and challenges I faced as a house girl made me to keep on crying for education so that I could get a good job then its happen that primary education was changed to be free and its when I went back to school and continued from class six I worked very hard hopping to go to secondary while I knew very well that my dad could not afford

Then my dad was employed as a goat herder in Kilifi plantation and through my hard working my dad start looking for sponsorship and he talked to Mrs Betty who is among the heads of the Kilifi plantation and she directed him to Kesho and when I got my class eight results I took them to Kesho with my application letter explaining the problem and Kesho committee members excepted to help me up to know thanks to Kesho organisation and I am still struggling to achieve the best in life and be able to help my fellow boys and girls who may be countering the same problem
Thanks

MY LIFE AS A KESHO STUDENT

The year 2007 marked the beginning of my sponsorship as a Kesho student when I was in form 2. One thing that I know is that, the far I have gone, Kesho has played a fundamental role in moulding and sharpening my life. In conjunction with Ribe Boys, Kesho has moulded and developed in me the what I am today and what I will be tomorrow. This is how Kesho participated in laying down the solid foundation for my destiny:-
First, Kesho sacrificially and willingly supported my academics which were already tossing and wavering about and the future looked unpredictable. Reckoning on the school fees, the text books, revision materials, it’s all a proverb to me not knowing on what to comment. It is something that is beyond people’s imagination and expectation.
Secondly, the awareness and enlightenment of current and emerging issues that came to the eyes of my heart. From deep within my inner man, I can now see the great monsters that are eating away the modern youth. HIV/AIDS, drug and drug abuse, premature relationships, premarital sex are issues that were effectively and extensively covered during Kesho days organised by Kesho.
Medicine was the only thing I knew I could do.Fortunately, through Kesho I can now view far and wider and spot a vast of opportunities, careers and places for my future. Indeed I know the how’s on pursuing my goals. Many things were invisible, hidden and blocked from my eyes but Kesho did its part of opening up the hidden and unexploited potential, treasures, talents, gifts, abilities that are hidden deep within me through the regular career talks.
Last but not least, the friendship, love and warmth of Kesho committee and staff. I appreciate your love toward me, for you were not only interested in my academics but also to impart love and care to me. If I consider the several gifts, the several visits at school, sodas, snacks and juice, though may considered small and of little significance but they meant a lot to me.
Lastly, Kesho played a vital role in development of my social life. Through Kesho, I have made many friends ranging from my fellow students, the committee and staff, the visitors during Kesho days and finally my sponsor. Through Kesho, I have known how to interact with different people of different races, religions, colour, background and sex.
What then shall I say or give to Kesho? For the things that Kesho did to me are immeasurable. Can you measure LOVE?

HOW IT FEELS TO BE A KESHO STUDENT
KESHO is an organization that helps ‘uneducated graduates discover their potential. I joined KESHO in September 2008. Since then I had not come to discover who I am and what I could do. I had been a bright student but due to frequent visits back home for fees, I had not come to realize my potential. I had not yet realized my reason for being in school.

Before joining KESHO that year, I had not been in school for almost two months out of the three months in third term! I did not do well in that end term's exam. I managed to score a B (plain). Encouragements from the KESHO family loomed, giving me more strength to beat the odds and scored a grade close to an A in the pre-trial in April 2009. The April's KESHO Careers day was the climax. The facilitators, who were graduates in different fields, gave me the compass. It was not surprising when I scored an A- in the August trial exams. A further more step made me to score a plain A in the KCSE. Since then I have come to know how much KESHO does to our community.

The Open day of December 2008 was very beneficial. It  was wonderful to interact with many other students from different schools in the country. Many of them were focused and this gave me more strength to strive for the better. The April's Careers day is not something so little to be left out. The facilitators put emphasis on the importance of every examinable subject. They discouraged the habit of looking down at some subjects. I can honestly say that this information contributed to my final grade at form four. The Boys reproductive day of December 2009 was very enjoyable. The movies were scary for those who were doing drugs and discouraged those who had the intention to. I however think that was a small number educated and I hope to see this message reach the whole of the residents of Coast Province which is ranked highest in abusing hard drugs.

There are so many doctors, engineers, pilots, economists, etc who are uneducated in our amidst. KESHO helps these bright and focused children know their position in their community by paying for their education.

Being a KESHO student is the greatest privilege a learner can get. Never get frustrated, focus; a light is at the end of the tunnel.

Discover who you are, know what you want and work towards it. If you are a KESHO sponsored student, that's a very good chance; never waste it. Your sponsor invests in you by paying for your education. This is a golden chance and never waste it. With KESHO we can make it.

God bless the KESHO family.
